YEAR 8 UNLEASH THEIR CREATIVITY

We're excited to share the amazing achievements of our Year 8 students in their recent art projects! During the first week of term, they dedicated their time and creativity to complete their stunning Polynesian Portrait artworks. To begin, students delved into the world of traditional Polynesian symbols, which served as inspiration for their unique tattoo designs. They then honed their skills in drawing the human face proportionally, following detailed step-by-step instructions. Adding depth and dimension through shading using pencils brought their portraits to life. As a final touch, students blended a colour gradient behind the portrait using acrylic paints and incorporated elements of their tattoo designs. This created patterned backgrounds reminiscent of the renowned contemporary artist, Kehinde Wiley.

In addition to their Polynesian Portraits, Year 8 recently embarked on a new artistic venture—creating ephemeral Environmental Artwork using natural materials. The students captured their stunning creations in photographs, which then served as references for creating detailed drawings. This project allowed them to explore various coloured pencil techniques, showcasing their talent and creativity.

We are incredibly inspired by the high quality of work produced by Year 8 across all four Hubs. A big congratulations to all the students who challenged themselves and devoted their best efforts to complete their artworks. Their dedication and hard work truly shine through in these outstanding pieces.
