Year 10 Geography: Envirothon Challenge

In Week 7, four Year 10 students represented our school in an inter-school Geography challenge run by Awabakal Education Centre. Chelsea Craine, Tilly Pestell, Ebony Wilesmith and Ella Wotherspoon engaged with the opportunity to develop new Geography fieldwork skills in a study of a current geographical issue impacting Glenrock State Conservation Park. The students were given a scenario that they would be advising the park rangers and local government of potential management strategies to address issues of competing interests in the park such as recreational bushwalking, cross-country running, mountain biking, paragliding and weddings, the local community and neighbours, whilst balancing the cultural, historical, environmental biodiversity and future sustainability needs of the habitat. We spent the day using geographical equipment to gather valuable information about the natural features and condition of the area, existing facilities and services, past and current human impacts; and current management strategies to make informed judgements on how effective these strategies have been and what needs to be improved upon in the next phase of protecting Glenrock State Conservation Park. Students also had the opportunity to interview two local stakeholders before developing a presentation proposing three strategies for consideration. The girls created a character-based scenario to represent the needs and perspectives of different stakeholders as part of their presentation and the judges provided positive feedback on their unique and thoughtful approach to the challenge. As always, our students represented the school with great pride and it was a great day, learning outside in a beautiful setting. We even saw a few whales cruising past which was a highlight of the day.

Year 8 – Descriptive Reports

Year 8 students have been creating some awesome work on their recent descriptive travel reports. Students were asked to choose a travel location that fascinated them and then write a report that detailed the ways in which this place in interconnected. Not only did they describe the physical aspects of these locations, but they also captured the unique cultures and experiences that make each place special. Students also considered the ways in which these locations were impacted by tourism and offered some insightful solutions to these problems. We are proud of our Year 8 students for their hard work and dedication. They put in the effort to research and present their findings in an engaging and entertaining way.

Extra-Curricular – Door Painting

Ms Purcell, Ms Smith and Ms Golding want to give a big shoutout to our talented students who have been rockin' the door painting subject during their extra-curricular period. These guys and gals have been putting their creativity to the test by tracing and painting designs of celebrities they truly admire.

The results have been mind-blowing! They've managed to capture the essence of their favourite celebs and transform our future toilet doors into vibrant works of art.

Their efforts and attention to detail have been truly impressive. Kudos to our talented artists for their dedication and hard work. They've shown us that inspiration can come from anywhere, and that a touch of creativity can transform ordinary spaces into something extraordinary.
