Principal's Message

Mr Alan Hope

A warm welcome to parents and carers to the Term 2 Newsletter.

I’m  thrilled to share some exciting updates and improvements that have been happening and some that are about to begin at our school that will hopefully enhance the learning environment for our students.

Our students have been having a voice in the upgrades that we have planned in 2023, which is why we've invested in a few projects around the school. We have upgraded our classrooms with new technology, such as interactive whiteboards and multimedia resources, to encourage increased engagement in the classroom. Additionally, we have some major works taking place around the school in the coming weeks. We are starting with new seating areas in a few spaces around the school, new garbage bins including recycling options, new goal posts on our top oval and new basketball and netball posts on our existing courts. The upgrades to the sporting areas will complement the major project of a new irrigation system on the top oval and a brand new basketball court beside our cricket nets. These projects should be starting soon and I cannot wait for our students to enjoy all of the upgrades we are planning.

I am really excited to announce the completion of a stunning new mural on our school gymnasium This beautiful artwork was created by local artist Jordan Lucky which adds some much needed colour and vibrancy to the front of the school. The mural which includes the iconic Kurri Kurri Kookaburra has been added to the Town of Mural’s list and will hopefully encourage visitors to the town to see the stunning artwork.

We have been working hard to introduce new uniform items to create a unified appearance and a positive sense of belonging among our students. With that in mind, we now have multiple options for shorts, jumpers, polo shirts, pants and are excited to introduce a new item. In collaboration with Flanagan’s menswear and our SRC students a new waterproof jacket will soon become available. This jacket will go into production soon with the hope that students will get the benefit this year! As we work to introduce new items, I would like to remind you all that school uniform is navy for pants and jumpers and appreciate your support in having all students attend school each day in the appropriate uniform. All uniform can be purchased from Flanagan’s menswear, with a small number being held at school for those families requiring additional assistance.

You may have also noticed an increased focus on student attendance as we believe that regular attendance is a key factor in a student's academic success. By attending school consistently, your child not only maximises their learning potential, establish positive relationships and also develops important life skills such as time management. We have introduced some new processes including increased use of our communication methods such as text messages to notify you of student absences and lateness. We are also promoting student attendance over 90% with regular acknowledgements and prize draws.

We have also recently finished our Wellbeing Week activities which aim to promote a sense of enjoyment, fun and belonging to the school. We celebrated with a whole school BBQ, music and dancing in the quad along with some events including Quad Art, staff v student dodgeball and amazing student shout outs. A big thank you to Ms DaSilva, Megan, Sharni and all our Year Advisors for their coordination of the week’s activities.

This newsletter will also highlight all the positive initiatives and events that have taken place throughout the school as we try to create a positive and nurturing environment for all our students.
