This week in Reading we are starting to a new topic on determining the important information within a text. 

VOCABULARY

Determine: to find out something.

Importance: something that matters the most. 

Main idea: the biggest idea, the most important part of the text.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

After your child has read their book at home for nightly reading, ask them to tell you the important information within a text after reading a book. 

Ask them to think about - was it really important to the story, a little bit important or just something interesting?
