Term 2 Week 8 - Friday 16th June 2023
What a busy two weeks we have all had! The Preps have been so resilient and brave with the business of the end of term! We have been having assessments in all subject areas, we had a visit from St John’s Ambulance Victoria as well as Police Offers from Victoria Police where the preps learnt about first aid and how and who to call in an emergency.
Our movies have both been filmed. Prep A was on Wednesday and Prep B was today. It was fun and exciting but I think we all would agree, it is tiring being famous movie stars! It will be so exciting seeing the movies on the big screen at Village Southland later this year. Thankyou so much to our parent helpers on the day!
End of term 2 is Friday 23rd June at 2.30pm.
We hope you all have a safe and happy term break.
We would like to say a big thank you to all parents and families of your constant
support this term.
What we are learning:
Phonics (Little Learners Love Literacy)
We have begun our new sounds this week which are n & h. We are still chanting “The letter is ____, the sound is ____”. It would be wonderful to continue this at home with the letters o & d. We are also continuing the focus on what we call heart words. These are The, My, the, my and I. We talk about when the upper case at the beginning is required. We have also started to blend CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words, using the letters we have learned so far; m,a,s,p,f,b,h,t,i, c, n and d.
Writing:
In writing we have been focussing to keep our letters and words on the line of our book as well as finger spaces and full stops. We have explored exclamation marks and had fun changing the expression in our voices when we see an ! in a sentence. Coming up next, we will learn about adjectives so our writing sounds more interesting and exciting.
Reading:
We continue to have a weekly mentor text in reading. We have linked some of our mentor texts to our inquiry unit. This fortnight we have enjoyed “Tinyville Town: I’m a Librarian'' and “Shopping.” Each day we have a different focus, asking and answering questions, rhyming words, providing feedback and learning 3 new words for our word wall. Both classes are enjoying becoming illustrators as they are asked to design their own front covers of a text we read.
Leader In Me:
We have continuously been using 7 Habit languages when we are in class and out in the yard. This week's focus is habit 6: Synergise
Inquiry
We have had a wonderful term learning all about People and Places in our inquiry. We have read books, learnt who can help us in the community and we have been lucky enough to have two visitors. Pappa Dave, Our very own Le Page crossing supervisor and two Police Officers from Victoria Police. Both taught the preppies about keeping safe when crossing the road and how Police officers can help us. Getting to wear police dress ups and sit in a real police car was definitely a highlight. Thankyou to all that made these visits possible for our preps.

Monday - Health
Tuesday - Art/Culture & Music
Wednesday- Art/Culture & PE

Important reminders
*Please continue to check the blue pouches nightly, as we use these to send notices home.
* We have begun sending home one decodable book per student per week. Students can only borrow a book if they bring their blue satchel. Please see our compass post for more information.
* A number of children are coming to school without a jumper. Please be sure to pack a school jumper for your child when playing outside at recess and lunchtime.
* We are finding that some jumpers are being taken home with the wrong name on it. If you could please check your child's jumper to ensure it has their name on it, that would be fantastic!
*Please ensure that your child has a substantial lunch such as a sandwich/roll/wrap or thermos for example for lunch along with a snack (cracker/yoghurt) and fruit or vegetables.
*Daily we have a fruit break, we kindly ask that you please pack your child a piece of fruit or a vegetable to snack on during this time.
*Please have your child’s drink bottle filled with water only.
