Round Square News

There is more to us than we know

Round Square International Conference

In October of this year, Year 11 students Dooriya, Denny, Maral-od, Ramona and Lydia will be travelling to Kenya for the 2023 annual Round Square International Conference. The Round Square International Conference (RSIC) brings students together from all over the world and is hosted at different schools and countries each year. This year’s conference will be hosted at the beautiful Brookhouse School in Nairobi, Kenya.

Students will be fortunate enough to participate in many Round Square activities: camping under the stars in the Nairobi National Park, learning about the Round Square IDEALS, and attending cultural performances and panel discussions. These students are all extremely excited to attend the RSIC and will be holding some fundraising events next term, so keep an eye out!

Round Square International Service Project

For the first time post-pandemic, Round Square is holding an International Service Project! This year’s International Service Project is in Thailand. The students undergoing this project will get to tackle problems relating to human-elephant coexistence and construction of some much-needed buildings in the remote communities of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.

Every student who applied from SPC has secured a spot on the trip. On the Environmental team, we have Nellie and Chamathka. On the Big Build team, we have Aleena, Amelie and Issy. We are all so excited to learn more about Thai culture, meet new people from around the world and help make a positive difference to the local community. We are also very proud to represent SPC and Ms Hutchinson and past staff member, Ms Kate Anderson will be leading the projects together with other staff members and students from around the world!

FLECS Trip

In Term 3, SPC are introducing our first FLECS Service Project, focusing on Year 10 and Year 11students working in partnership with Ti Tree Community School, located about 200km north of Alice Springs.

Our SPC students are excited to work with the local students to improve engagement and literacy by helping out in a range of subjects and areas. This project promotes the Round Square IDEALS of leadership and service, and it will be wonderful to build upon this relationship with a community who is excited to have our support. It not only supports our SPC students by helping them reach some of their Duke of Edinburgh Award criteria, but by having the chance to immerse themselves in a different community and build new relationships. Please go and see Ms Pollitt or Ms Frank as they have a lot more information for anyone interested.
