Principal's Report

Dear families,

As we start this new semester, I am filled with hope and optimism that the remainder of the year will deliver positive outcomes. As we have now passed the winter equinox the days, while still very chilly, are becoming longer and we are moving into the light.

Part of my optimism stems from the very pleasing NAPLAN results that came through this week (parents will receive the results in the mail early next week). This is to be celebrated. Another exciting development is the construction of the architectural plans for the refurbishment of our student amenities, café, and home economics kitchen. This should go out to tender in Term 4.

It has been wonderful to see parents attend the subject selection information sessions this week and last. This demonstrates the support families provide for their sons’ and daughters’ educational pathways. The Year 9 Careers Day on Tuesday was a great opportunity for our students to engage with local employers and training institutions. A big thanks to Lesley Lannen for organising these events.

There is much on in the coming weeks, and I encourage you to check the College Calendar on PAM. Events such as the Year 10 Drivers Education program in Charlton and the Year 11 Presentation Ball are annual highlights and next week a group of Year 8 students will participate in a competition around Nanotechnology in Melbourne. Small school, big opportunities!

I am pleased to announce that Amanda Carracher has accepted the position of Chair of the Parent Reference Group, the body that provides advocacy for parents in the College, and she can be contacted through prg@stbc.vic.edu.au . I also thank Jo Martin for her service in this role and inform you that Jo will remain Chair of the School Advisory Committee which meets regularly to provide advice to me regarding the strategic direction of the College.

Keep safe

Gerard Raven
