CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to take ten to solve subtraction problems.

VOCABULARY

Take Ten and Partition:

This strategy has you partition the smaller number to allow to take to the next multiple of ten and then take what remains.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Use a dice, pack of cards or brainstorm two numbers that you can take ten and partition using this strategy.

Don’t forget that when we partition we break apart the smaller number to create two digits. One of these digits must be added to the first number in the subtraction problem to TAKE TEN.

There is an example in the vocabulary section of how to use this strategy if you need it.
