School Council Update

Hello parents and carers,

School Council held the June meeting on Monday this week (19 June). Pease find below a short update from this meeting.

Child playground safety

We discussed concerns raised by some parent and carers about the safety of the monkey bars given recent injuries. We will investigate other surfaces, but any playground work will form part of the master plan that is underway (“AMP1”) as part of the capital works improvement (the money promised to our school in the last Victorian state election).

Fete revenue

As per our last update, Council is carefully considering, with School Leadership, how this year’s fete funds should best be spent in line with the school’s strategic priorities. A proportion of funds will likely be spent on operational expenses. Another option is to allocate some fete revenue to school camps, as changes to the Department’s enterprise bargaining agreement will see significant impact on teacher time costs while on camp compared to prior years.

As part of this same discussion, School Leadership updated Council on the positive news that the Department now plans to make some funding available for teacher time on camps. But it is unclear how much money we would receive towards teacher time on camps.

A smaller group will brainstorm options to spend this year’s fete revenue. If you have suggestions, please let us know. This group will report back in the July or August meeting for Council consideration.

Out of School Hours Care

The Team Kids transition is well underway. If you are yet to, you can sign up for the Holiday program using the QR codes provided in the newsletter. For parents/carers of children with additional needs, please email bec.s@teamkids.com.au with any enrolment and/or care questions.

NAIDOC Week

We are excited to celebrate NAIDOC as an entire school on Friday 14 July. Please see the newsletter for information on how you can help out on the day and/or donate supplies that needed for the art activity. If you have volunteered and not given us your mobile number, please let Kylie know (0411 371 830), as we will be in touch before the event with run sheets to help prepare all helpers. Also, keep an eye out on Compass for the social story written about this event to help familiarise your child(ren) with how the event will run; and to pay for this event. A big thank you to our Reconciliation Action Plan working group for planning this event.

School policies update

The Education sub-committee plays an important role in regularly reviewing our school’s policies to ensure that they are up to date and in line with department changes. You can view all the updated policies at the school’s website www.carltonnthps.vic.edu.au

The Great Lee Street Fete 2024

Drumroll please……

On advice from our fabulous fundraising sub-committee, the date for the 2024 Great Lee Street Fete has been set, so put a placeholder in your calendar for Sunday 3 March.

More information on how you can get involved will follow in Term 3 and 4.

Our fundraising committee is full of committed and experienced members, some of which might step off as their children transition to older years or high school. If you’d like to come and learn from some of the best in the biz in an encouraging environment, please reach out to Alice Knowles, Jess Adam or Kylie Hansen.

If you are interested in bringing together a group to organise the next trivia night (school fundraiser), please come to the next fundraising sub-committee meeting on Wednesday 19 July, 2:30pm (usually held in Rachel’s office).

We hope you enjoy your weekend and have a safe school break.

Look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.
