Message from the Principal Team

And That’s a Wrap!
Congratulations to all of our students, staff and families for making it through to the end of Term 2. It has been an exceptionally busy term with many exciting events including Cross Country, Earn and Learn, Endangered Species encounters and much more. We would like to wish all the members of our CNPS community a safe and happy winter holiday.
Year 1/2 Schools in the Olden Days Experience
On Tuesday, the Year 1/2 students experienced a different type of schooling. As a wrap up to end the Year 1/2 Inquiry unit, ‘Changes Over Time’, the 1/2 teachers hosted a morning that showed students what school might have been like 150 years ago. Students could visit each classroom where they were taught poetry, handwriting, arithmetic, manners and movement. Students were given the opportunity to dress up or bring in an item that linked to the topic. Millie (Miss Holden), Emily (Miss Razay), Jesse (Mr Tatterson) and Billy (Mr Candy) were very impressive as strict teachers. Headmistress Ms Corben also paid each class a morning visit.
Milo Monkey's Birthday Surprise
Today the Foundation students celebrated Milo Monkey's Birthday Surprise. The 7 stages of Little Learners Love Literacy encompasses all the vital components of an evidence-based structured literacy program – explicit teaching, a carefully developed scope and sequence and a range of decodable books.
Milo's Birthday Surprise takes children on a journey through the letters of the alphabet, highlighting the sound of each letter. Becoming aware of the link between sounds and letters is the first step in learning to read. Milo the monkey introduces his friends as he invites them to his birthday party.
School Grounds Update
It was great to see Norm back at school today doing a tidy up of the school, in particular the leaf litter around the bluestones. Norm will also be working during the school holidays to refill the sand pits and place more tan bark under our play equipment. Norm officially retired as our Grounds and Maintenance Coordinator last year, however, he comes back from time to time when needed. We are looking for someone who might be able to work 1 day per week to replace Norm and keep our school safe and clean. Norm’s role includes minor maintenance work and buildings and grounds upkeep. If anyone knows of someone who might be interested in this position please contact Gaby or Sarah in the Office.
TeamKids
We are very much looking forward to TeamKids commencing in the school holidays. We have been extremely impressed with the professionalism of the staff that we have interacted with to date and feel that TeamKids will provide a high-quality holiday program and before and after school care for our CNPS families.
For further information about enrolments and the holiday program there is a TeamKids page in this newsletter.
Semester 1 Student Reports
This afternoon we will be distributing your child’s semester 1 Student Reports on Compass. Next term we will be conducting Parent Teacher Interviews in Week 4 on Monday 31 July and Tuesday 1 August. These interviews are an opportunity for parents and carers to discuss the semester 1 Student Reports and their child’s academic and social emotional progress with their child’s teacher. Further information on how to book a Parent Teacher Interview will be published early next term.
Staffing News
Trish Harrington is currently on some well deserved and long awaited long service leave. She and her family are galavanting around Europe and are currently in London. Trish will be away for the first 3 weeks of Term 3 and while she is away Gaby Shortis will be in the role of Acting Business Manager and Sarah Morgan will be working as Office Administration.
Early Finish Tomorrow and Change of Lunch Time
A reminder that we finish at 2:30pm tomorrow (Friday 23 June). As a result our timetable for the day will change and students will be eating lunch at 12:30pm before going out to play from 12:40-1:40 pm. Lunch orders will still go ahead.
