COLLEGE NEWS
Student Support Officer - Leon Naufahu
Wyndham College welcomes Leon Naufahu as our Community Liaison Officer for the remainder of 2023. Leon was previously the Student Support Officer at Seven Hills High School.
Leon has already been working with a group of Wyndham College Year 11 students in a Developmental Coaching Program. This Program is being co-developed with the University of Sydney Coaching Psychology Unit and explores whether access to a coach and coaching might be a suitable and sustainable way to support better student outcomes for high school students.
The NSW Department of Education Pathways and Transitions Unit and the Nirimba Collegiate schools are monitoring the Program and supporting its development and further research. It is anticipated that with Leon's relocation to Wyndham College, more students may be receive this additional support.
Leon will be available to discuss coaching with Wyndham staff, students, and the community at the College on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The coaching is available to students already in the program during their study breaks on these days.
He is also looking forward to working with the school's Wellbeing Team. “I’m lucky to be at WCN,” Leon commented, adding: “I have a simple goal – that as many of our students and those that care about them get to know and experience coaching. They don’t need to feel isolated. Coaching can help deal with discomfort, self-doubt or indeed any worthy achievement by first offering compassion, curiosity and conversation.”
Feel free to have a conversation with Leon anytime you see him. He may even share some of his Marvellous Creations chocolate. (He always has some).

Productivity Bootcamp Graduates
Congratulations to Wyndham College students Bryce Jenkins and Lachlan Reeves who are recent graduates of Productivity Bootcamp.
Productivity Bootcamp is a concentrated 8-week program, giving young people the construction skills, hands-on experience in many trades as well as the work values needed to succeed in the industry.
This is a fantastic achievement by these students. Both Bryce and Lachlan have secured apprenticeships.
Well done Bryce and Lachlan!

From the Year 11 Deputy
Term 3 is the final full term for Year 11 courses. Students have been reminded they must meet the requirements of ALL six Year 11 courses (12 units) to qualify for their Year 11 RoSA and to then proceed to the HSC. Students, who do not meet the requirements to complete courses, place themselves at risk of not being able to proceed to Year 12. Thus, students should be acting on any N-Warning letters that have been sent. They need to complete outstanding work and tasks and submit them to their teachers as soon as possible.
This will be a busy term for Year 11. All courses will be completing course content and assessment tasks in preparation for the final Year 11 End of Course Exams.
The 2023, Year 11 Examination Period is the final 2 weeks of this term – Monday 11th to Friday 22nd September. Students, parent and carers are reminded that students are expected to be in attendance for all scheduled exams for their courses. Thus, holidays should not be booked during this time. Students will be given feedback on their examination early in Term 4. The examination timetable will be given to students mid-term.
If students are unable to attend a scheduled examination due to illness or misadventure, please contact the school on 9208 7100. Documentation is required (e.g. a doctor’s certificate) and a Wyndham College Illness/Misadventure Appeal Form must be completed and submitted, with the relevant documentation, on the first day of return after illness.
Early in Term 4, Year 11 will participate in the My HSC Conference Day. This is an important transition time to move students from Year 11 into Year 12. More information will follow.

Coming soon…..Mobile phone ban in all NSW Government Schools
Some important aspects of the ban:
- It will apply during lunch and recess, as well as in class.
- Students will still be able to carry their phones while travelling to and from school.
- School staff can allow students to use their mobile phones in specific circumstances, such as for an educational purpose, their wellbeing or to support students with specific needs.
- Individual requests to exempt a student from the ban from parents, carers, or students, should be assessed, with alternative communication options considered.
The Department of Education will be supporting schools to enact the ban.
Term 3 will be used for familiarisation and further communication with the school community, and Term 4 is scheduled for the ban to commence.
