Principal's Report
Term 3 is off to a great start with everyone working hard and back into routines. A reminder for everyone that many illnesses are circling including the flu ( A and B), Covid (remains with us) , gastro and a variety of colds. Please keep children at home when unwell in any way to avoid the spread of germs and to ensure that they have time to fully recover. It is also important that children have warm coats and beanies to wear when outside at recess, lunch, before and after school. If you are in need of a warm winter coat for your child please call into the office. We were kindly donated a box of brand new coats in a range of sizes so if we can help out we certainly will. This is a limited stock so first in first served.
This week the year 3-6s enjoyed a fabulous science day with thanks to the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC) . This hugely engaging day of rocket building and launching culminated with a magical evening of star gazing and learning all about the sky that we look at every night! We were thrilled to see the majority of Year 3-6s come along to enjoy learning about the night sky.
Student Wellbeing Boost
All schools have recently received a funding boost to support Student Wellbeing. We have chosen to utilise some of this funding and support all our families in the following ways.
- Zana and the Lost Code - Cybersafety/online safety incursion for years 1- 6 - no cost to families. (This is a recommended and approved program from the DET Schools Mental Heath Menu which supports initiatives to promote student wellbeing and mental health).
- Whole school Auslan Incursion ( presented by Auslan in the West ) and staff update & professional learning session - Term 3 2023 and Term 1 2024 - no cost to families
- Whole school Artist in Residence program - Week 1 Term 4 - "Bollywood comes to LPS" culminating in a whole school performance in our gym - no cost to families. These events are all no cost to families however they will all require parent/carer consent on Compass when the time comes.
Busking for Change!
We are encouraging all students to join our Busking for Change challenge and help raise funds for remote communities and families! Please see detailed information in this newsletter and sign up now! Thank you to Jenna for her hard work to get this initiative up and running.
School Council news
LPS school council would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents who helped with the running of our disco last term. It was a great success.
Parents organising the trivia night (coming up on the 1st of September), are doing a great job and have secured many wonderful prizes and items to bid on at the silent auction. Please support their efforts and support our school buy coming along and we are sure you will have a great night out! Trivia night information can be found in this newsletter. If you would like to donate towards the prizes or auction items please contact Nat Brown or Prue Williams.
Works over the holidays
Over the last term break, we had four new split systems installed in classrooms to replace decommissioned heaters. We also had repairs to some areas of the atrium which were damaged by our atrium 'flood' earlier this year.
