Teaching and Learning

Half Yearly Examinations are now complete. As students receive their results it is an opportune time to reflect on their preparation. What worked? What needs to improve? I have seen many students who have set realistic and achievable goals, students who are prepared to do the work that is required, who subsequently achieve at high levels.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent/Teacher Interviews for Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 are on Wednesday 28 June from 3:30pm - 7:30pm. I encourage parents to make an online booking with their child’s teachers. By coming along to parent teacher evening you are able to receive further feedback about your child to help them formulate strategies towards improvement. Information about how to book online will be emailed.
Year 10
Year 10 students will be given information about subject selections for Preliminary 2018 early next term. We will have student workshops during the day and a parent evening organised. More information to come.
Year 12
Year 12 students will be given their Trial Examination Timetable via Mentor Groups. Students must attend the published days and times.
Verbosity
You may have heard of our Verbosity Tool featuring in classrooms. This is our whole school initiative to assist students to understand and respond to the key terms of a question with the level of detail and structure required. It is a scaffold that is easy to use and we look forward to showing parents at Parent/Teacher Interviews how this works!
Text Messages
Finally, it is vitally important to our staff that learning is prioritised in every class room, every day. It is, however, very difficult to compete when students receive text messages from parents during class. Please ensure that you make contact via the office and a message will be delivered to your child without disturbing their learning.

Year 9 HSIE
Students in Year 9 HSIE were privileged last week to be able to see first hand original relics from World War II. Student, Georgia Cutcliffe brought a gas mask, helmet and water flask in to class that had belonged to her great grandfather. He served overseas in World War II and then returned to Australia to serve on the home front in Cowra. His role there was to oversee the Japanese prisoners.
Students made observations about the objects as part of our study of Australia's involvement in the World Wars.
We thank the family for generously loaning the relics to our class.

Footwear for Practical TAS Classes
Unfortunately there are still students who are not bringing appropriate footwear to work in the timber workshops. If your child has a practical PDHPE lesson which means they wear their sports uniform and a Technology subject on the same day, they must bring leather shoes. It disrupts all students' learning when the teachers have to discuss footwear at the beginning of every lesson. Please work with us to ensure your child is safe at all times.
