From the Principal
John XXIII Day
As I write preparations are underway for our Mass and other celebrations at the culmination of our Founders’ time. It is always an important time of the year and this year has special significance being our 40th year as John XXIII College.
It really is a time of celebration. Due reverence and respect was afforded on the Feast of St Ignatius last week and a delightful sense of community and fun was evident at our Secondary House Athletics’ Carnival. Check the following link for an excellent clip made by Year 12 student, Sam Tout:

One of our guest speakers this week was Mrs Kim Nass, Executive Officer, Mary Ward International Australia (MWIA). This important initiative from the Loreto Sisters focuses on the empowerment of women and children, community development, social justice, poverty reduction, healthcare and protection against violence and trafficking.
The types of projects MWIA support include:
- Primary, secondary and tertiary education for children and young people.
- Adult education, such as life skills, vocational training, literacy and numeracy.
- Community development, including leadership and organisational training.
- Rural development.
- Community savings and micro-credit schemes.
- Health assessments, medical and surgical care, therapy and rehabilitation.
- Hostel accommodation and other support to enable access to health and education for people from remote and conflict areas.
Mrs Nass enlightened our students and staff on many of the overseas projects and ways in which John XXIII College can contribute beyond the Western Australian borders.
John XXIII Day is a great day and I thank all our students, staff and families for making it a special time for our community.
