My Carnival Experience

By Holly Hume (Emerald)

The Following piece is from Emerald recount winner, Holly Hume.

Ding!! Dong!! Ding!! Dong!! The bell went for the end of the day and everybody ran up to their parents so that they could be could the first on a ride. There was Hot Gun, Whizzer, Meltdown, Teacup ride and a giant slide. There was also a petting zoo, slash tank, Trug's got Talent and lots and lots of stalls. First Rylee and I went on Whizzer and screamed our little heads off. The ride was going side to side and it looked like we were going to hit the fence. The ride was cray and made me feel sick when I got off. After a few more crazy rides we went to go and watch some of the Trug's got Talent performances. It wasn't long before it was my turn. Keira sang the song Wolves while I danced to it. I enjoyed dancing in front of the crowd. After our performance, Angie arrived and I spent the next hour going on rides with Keira, Rylee, Angie and Sienna. My two favourite rides were Hot Gun and Meltdown. Hot Gun was a ride that was on the wall and it went in circles, it was fast, and Rylee hated it when it stopped at the top for a few seconds. Meltdown was a jumping Castle with a tall and short sweeper. We had to jump over the short one and limbo under the tall one. Carnival was amazing. I had a spectacular time and enjoyed having fun with my friends.

Cultures around Wyndham by Bianca Gomez and Swasthika Rithik (Topaz

Written by Bianca Gomez and Swasthika Rithik (Topaz)

On Friday the 16th of March the 3/4 students explored different cultural locations around Wyndham. We went to Al Taqwa College, Sri Durga Temple, St Andrews Church and the Equip Church. We went to these places to gather useful information about other cultural backgrounds. This activity links with our Inquiry unit at school which is Identity and Belonging. Just by looking at all the children’s faces you could tell they enjoyed this excursion.

The most interesting thing we learnt was….

“You need to take your shoes off at the temple and the mosque to be respectful.” - Bianca

“That the mosque had two separate areas on the inside.” - Swasthika
