Da Vinci Decathlon

Over the month of May, teams of students from our Elite Performance and 10+ programs across Year 7, 8 and 9 attended the Da Vinci decathlon competing against mostly elite private schools in Melbourne. Teams are provided with a theme and are presented with challenging questions across a range of disciplines with a particular emphasis placed on higher order thinking skills.  Our students were fantastic ambassadors for the College and achieved some particularly pleasing results given the competition.  Across each year level our student’s achieved outstanding subject results: Year 7 students came 5th in Art & Poetry and 9th in Creative Producers, Year 8 students came 6th in English and Creative Producers respectively and 9th in Philosophy and Year 9/10 students came 4th in Engineering.  Well done to all students who participated in this event.

International Students to the AFL Excursion

On Friday 7th June, a group of the international students, accompanied by a handful of local students acting as tour guides, visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to watch the Richmond Tigers play the Geelong Cats.  The team travelled into the city on the train from Frankston Station.  Mr Hemsley did his best to get the group lost, but try as he might, they all got to the ground with plenty of time to spare.  All of the students were amazed with the beauty of the famous stadium and were thrilled with the skills displayed by players such as Dustin Martin, Gary Ablett and Patrick Dangerfield.  Highlights of the night included Luby’s newfound passion for AFL, Ethan’s enthusiastic support of his beloved Cats, and Jacky’s amazing prediction of the final result.  Thank you very much to Mr Liu and Mr Hemsley for arranging the trip and attending on the night.
