Year 8 News

Year 8 Exams and Punctuality

At the end of Semester 1 our Year 8 students completed their Maths and English exams. Miss Pate, Mr Richardson and Mr Nicholls would like to commend the students for the organised and positive approach the majority of students demonstrated on these days.  It is however, a timely reminder, to students and families about the importance of punctuality.  During the exams at 25% of our students were late to period 1.  This causes a massive disruption to all students as they to concentrate on their exam writing, especially in the MAX space.  Students are reminded that Period 1 begins at 8:50.  Students should be sitting in class, with their materials, ready to engage with the lesson when this bell rings.

Year 8 Student Activities

Throughout this term, Year 8 students have been involved in an enormous number of school based activities that take place outside the classroom.  Year 8 students participated in many of the interschool sports teams with varying degrees of success but overwhelmingly positive participation and enjoyment.  805 took part in the Da Vinci Decathalon and performed extremely well in a number of categories.  Hands-On-Learning students continue their amazing work in the gardens in and around the college and are looking forward to Go Kart Racing in Term III. They will be racing a Go Kart they have designed and built themselves.    On Fridays our FL@M students head off to Karingal Primary School and cook with the students there.  Year 8 students have participated in SRC programs, music performances, production rehearsals, MAP excursions and so on, and so on.  It is great to see so many of our students getting involved in the life of the College and having such a positive impact.

Year 8 Awards

Our most recent End of Term Awards Assembly was held on Tuesday June 25th.  The assembly was capably run by our SRC members and shone a light on the hard-work and growth demonstrated across all subject areas. Students were acknowledged not only for Academic Achievement, but for personal growth in the learning.  There were at least 25 Awards presented including an Academic Achievement Award for Mitchell P from 805 for his work in Year 11 Maths!  Great effort, Mitchell.

Thanks!

The Year 8 Leaders – Mr Richardson and Miss Pate – would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Davidson for all her hard work moulding our current Year 8s into shape over the past 18 months.  And welcome Mr Nicholls to the Year 8 team as coordinator from the start of Semester 2.
