Year 12 - University of Notre Dame: Early Offer Program 2018

High achieving Year 12 students can apply for Notre Dame’s Early Offer Program. This program is open to Year 12 students who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or are making a significant contribution to their school, community or church. The program rewards academic and non-academic achievements by issuing university offers prior to the final WACE exams. Applicants will need to demonstrate a predicted benchmark ATAR of 93 for the Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Physiotherapy; and a predicted benchmark ATAR of 90 for all other undergraduate programs. For academic capability, all offers are made based on Year 11 and Year 12 reports to date.

To apply for the Early Offer Program, you must be nominated by your school and application packs will be available for students in June.

All applications must be handed in to Mr Bostelman no later than the 20 July.  The College will forward all applications to Notre Dame.  For more information about Early Offer, go to

Year 12 Exit Plans

All Year 12 students will be meeting individually with the Career Counsellor after the May exams.  The meeting will be to discuss their plans for next year and to offer any guidance or additional information concerning their options.  Please discuss your child’s exit plans with him or her now and encourage those who have vague plans to see me prior to the exams so we can work together on developing clear goals and action steps.

Students interested in a career in Construction or a Pre-Apprenticeship in Year 11, are invited to attend a College excursion on Tuesday 19 June.  The new Construction Futures Centre (CFC) in Belmont invites students to experience the interactive environment and explore the different pathway options available.  They will also discover the importance of subjects such as Mathematics and Design and Technology in this industry. There is a construction paraprofessional option for students interested in the business management and drafting aspect of the industry.  The following industries are represented at CFC:

  • Painting & Decorating
  • Brick Laying
  • Paraprofessional/Business (CAD drawing, Construction Costing/Estimating, Construction Management)
  • Solid Plastering
  • Wall & Ceiling/ Floor Tiling
  • Carpentry & Joinery

This excursion is for Year 10 students selecting either the UniTransition or Training Direct pathway in Year 11 and would like to know more about the Construction industry.  Girls are encouraged to participate in this excursion as they are known to do very well in the painting and decorating and tiling courses.  Interested students must email the Careers Counsellor margi.watson@cewa.edu.au by 10am on Monday 11 June.

Construction

Were you the kid who loved Lego and building forts in the yard? If you love building, creating and working with your hands then a career in construction might be a good fit.

Whether you’re building a house or an airport, just about every trade is represented on each worksite so it’s smart to get an idea of how they all fit together.

Check out the Construction Bullseye from MyFuture here.

Surveyor

From the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information of NSW – “A career in surveying can be very diverse and involves travelling and the use of specialised technology.  Surveyors can be involved in making measurements in the outdoors or indoors, processing data and creating plans and maps.”

Surveyors measure and map things then provide the information to people like engineers, architects and developers.

You could work in the office or in the field, using high-tech equipment and sophisticated software to put together measurements that are needed by other design professionals.

Without their work it would be impossible for engineers and architects to accurately design and construct buildings.

Salary: Starting salary around $42k for an Assistant (Cert III level) to $64k for a Draftsperson with 5 years’ experience. Those with a university qualification may earn $90k plus as a Licensed/Registered Surveyor.

Qualifications: From TAFE, start with a Cert III and work through to a Diploma to become a fully qualified draftsperson, you need a university degree to become a surveyor.

Where do I start? Check out A Life Without Limits, they have heaps of fantastic info and a list of all the courses at TAFE and university level in Australia.
