Tamworth Regional Council Sports Awards

Each year, outstanding sporting achievements by individuals or teams are celebrated at the Tamworth Regional Council Sports Awards. Held at West Tamworth League Club on Wednesday, 30th October, the 2019 awards brought together individuals and the region’s sports clubs and associations to acknowledge achievements both on and off the field over the playing period of 1 January to 9 October 2019.

Nominations for the 2019 awards were received across sports including cricket, crossfit, cycling, basketball, swimming, AFL, dressage, hockey, rugby league, baseball, water polo, mountain biking, soccer, gymnastics, tennis, BMX, physie, and oztag.

The winner of the award for the Junior Sports Team of the Year was the McCarthy Junior Girls Hockey Team. This team consisted of female hockey players in Years 7 to 9 at McCarthy Catholic College, Tamworth. In August, the team were the Junior Girl Champions at the 2019 Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) State Carnival in Newcastle. (This is the second consecutive year the team has won this championship, with eight players part of both wins).
