Pastoral Care News

Change is often hard to adapt to and particularly harder when it comes quickly and without choice or control. 2020 has most definitely been a year full of changes and challenges but as we all venture down a new pathway, we must remember we are all in this journey together. Whether you are a student, parent, or a staff member you will rise to the challenge and perhaps discover how resilient you really are and qualities and skills perhaps you did not know you had.

Many people are still feeling the impact of recent bushfires, floods and drought and it is very normal to not feel OK in challenging times such as these. As a direct result of the social isolation directives many people within our community have the additional stress factors of loss of income or isolation from friends and family.  Please remember to be kind to yourself and it is now even more important that we all promote a sense of community, reach out and ask our friends, family and colleagues, “Are you OK?”.

The R U OK foundation have been updating their website regularly and acknowledge as Australia and the world people are facing an unprecedented situation as our health authorities and governments act to manage the spread of COVID-19 .

“Some people might be feeling anxious, worried about when things will return to normal, be physically unwell or concerned about their health and wellbeing. We encourage you to use this time to pick up the phone, video call, SMS or post online to check in and see how those in your world are travelling. If you’re feeling well and able to support someone, reach out and let them know you’re there to help now and for as long as it takes".

We live in a society that has many different forms of communication so please remember although you may be isolated ……you are not alone. Teachers, school leaders and indeed our own school counsellor are all easily contactable if you have concerns regarding learning or someone’s mental health.

If you are wishing just to have a chat or need assistance please feel free to contact me.

Please continue to follow recommended guidelines and change the way that you think to help get you through this unprecedented change…………………you are not isolated but you are safe xx

Kindest regards
