Principal News

Dear Parents, Students and Friends

Taking the line from Prime Minister Scott Morrison, “It’s been a hard week” seems no doubt to summarise how everyone is feeling now. Nevertheless, as a College community, we can feel justifiably proud as students, staff and families are responding to the demands of working from home in a positive spirit and continuing to put learning first. We are all gaining new knowledge as we expand our understanding about how best to use online learning. Teachers, students and parents are rapidly acquiring new skills and this will be to our advantage when we eventually return to school.

A survey was emailed to all students and parents seeking feedback on how learning is going online. We want to gather aggregated data for our teaching and make necessary adjustments moving forward.

At this stage, I have not heard about a return to school date for staff and students. Like you, I am watching media statements; I also attend online zoom meetings with my head office at Catholic Education, Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW) and when informed of this information, everyone will be contacted. As you are aware, the College is open for students who cannot remain at home, supervision of students who attend school will continue, and I thank staff who are volunteering to be on the roster.

Please find included in today’s newsletter a statement from CEDWW concerning online classes for next week. In essence, classes are suspended (for Yrs 7-10) to give students time to complete set work from this week and teachers more time to prepare online work for next term. Senior teachers will be contacting their classes next week.

Term Two for teachers will commence on Monday 27 April. For students, classes (online) will commence on Wednesday 29 April. These two days will allow teachers to prepare more work and allow for discussion and reflection on what needs to continue and what needs to change in the coming weeks. Once again, I thank you for your patience and support.  Current arrangements concerning supervision of students who cannot be supervised from home will remain in place.

Stay safe, continue to practice all medical authority and government recommendations and don’t forget time for prayer!
