Young gentlemen just graduating high school in Samoa spoke to us on our trip expressing three core values he had learnt in his education. He spoke about a life of solidarity (if you choose), a life of being poor and a life of service. It was the second value that he spoke about at length, the life of poverty was explained as not living in poverty but being happy with whatever you had. This would allow any extra to be given to others to fulfill their life. He went on to explain how happy he is because he knows that what little he has in life was always going to be enough. A beautiful thought.
Project Samoa
I have just returned from an amazing 8 days in Samoa and hence this article will be brief. I was extremely grateful to be a part of an amazing team with Sanita Lole and 9 students:
Tarnpreet Kaur, Manvir Singh, Julian Davidge, Teneeka Andreazza, Isabelle Eldridge, Lauren Bertolin, Josh Golden and Shanuille Parsa.
They were amazing in the way they tackled every challenge and task. Samoa is in crisis at the moment and it was an eye opener to be there in this time where they are suffering a measles epidemic. By the time we left 28 children and 2 adults had reportedly passed away from the disease. The country was understandably in lock down. Schools were shut down mid HSC and they were all in need of some friendly faces and gifts of compassion and service in which we hopefully provided on our trip. It was all recorded in a live blog that is available through our college website. This is a day to day break down of what we achieved in Samoa including photos. The two schools we visited, St Paul VI College and St Peters Falefa had both improved since our last visit with clear signs of our past contributions around both of their grounds.
We pledged to further assist them both through our fundraising here at Marian and we hold their communities in our thoughts and prayers. Sending much love to the families of lost loved ones and we pray that they heal as a nation in order to move forward.

Over the weekend we will be working on our final reflection and article around our project that will be prepared for the media. Stay tuned.
