ACC SWIMMING CARNIVAL 2020

2020 saw the usual Friday night carnival trialled as a Thursday twilight carnival to incorporate Division 2 A and B races and the new 6 school division structure.  34 students left the College ready to show what CBC is made of.  In Division 2 only Simonds College has a smaller enrolment than CBC so ‘giant killing’ isn’t new to us.

The squad warmed up in lane 9 with Mr Kaufman and Mr O’Connor, refining and adjusting those little errors which in the pool can cost big. The senior students gave the new Year 7s the tour to the marshalling area and explained what to expect. Callum Brett in his 6th and final carnival reminded the swimmers that marshalling on time was essential as the first call was made.

Ayden McCarroll from Year 9 took on the open 200m freestyle, using this year as the start of his times and preparation for continuing as our 200m swimmer for the next 3 years. Competing against Year 12s was always going to be daunting but Ayden took it in his stride.

Mr Kaufman was keeping a close eye on the times and stats as more races ticked on by. Mazenod were just moving ahead of us, with Salesian dominant in all strokes and age groups. The Gouws brothers remained dominant in their backstroke events both taking ‘the W’ and Geremy Baxas following former school captain and older brother George into the competition this year.

With the relays fast approaching we needed to keep Mazenod in 4th place. The Under 14s team took their event out in style and whilst the Under 15s came second, they broke a long standing CBC record. As the Swim Captains were called down for presentations, the coaches couldn’t be prouder of our team performance and sporting conduct of our squad. As the age group winners were called we were delighted and surprised the hear CBC called up as Division 2 Under 17s winners!

What a great night and a true reflection of hard work, training and commitment.
