CHESS GAMERS CLUB

Chess Gamers Club has been given a monetary donation by St. Vincent’s De Paul Society – Melton South Campus. Lorraine Tellis has donated $220 for the Chess Gamers Club to purchase four much needed chess sets.  The aim of the Chess Club is to provide a social meeting place, where students can meet to play chess on a social, and also a competitive, level. Students come to the recess activity from different interests - gaming, football, netball, and music. Both students and staff are engaged in the lunch recess activity.

The chess activity allows students to socialise with other students and staff in a safe environment. Also of note is that experienced playing students will help in coaching newbies to the game. This will provide positive foundations for student leadership and school engagement.

The program is well supported by the college staff; Ms Geraldine King, mathematics teacher, and Michael Malady, school health promotion nurse. Both are investigating the possibility of supplying an outdoor chess table/ board to encourage students to be outside during the warmer weather.

In the future, the students may seek to be involved in chess tournaments with Melton and Kurunjang Colleges.

The lunch time recess activity will enable the students to meet other students socially and engage in fun and competitive game.
