Principal's Report

Semester One Celebration
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our whole school community on a successful Semester 1.
Celebrating Parents and Carers
The support of our families is a vital component of the success of our school. We appreciate the hard work that you do to get students to school ready to learn, and in supporting their learning at home. One measure of this is our attendance, which again is tracking to be significantly better than the state average. Another measure is attendance at parent teacher evenings, which has again risen in 2018. I would particularly like to thank the parent members of school council led by School Council President Rachel Johns.
Celebrating the Staughton Staff
We have fantastic teachers at Staughton College. They care about our students. They take the time to know them as people, and learners. At Staughton we place great value on students developing their resilience, in order to keep persevering to achieve. This idea is key to our motto ‘Try Persevere Achieve’. Our students are taught the strategies of effective learning, so that they can eventually leave the college as lifelong independent learners. We are passionate about ensuring students demonstrate learning growth, and proud of our success in this area.
Celebrating our students
Lastly I would like to congratulate the students on their efforts. We are particularly noticing increased student engagement in the school. Our student leaders have been working with students from across the school in tutorial groups to look at what great lessons look like, and what teachers and students can do to create them. This will then be fed back to students and teachers.
We also understand that school is about more than just the learning that happens in the classroom. We have thriving smaller communities in areas of student passion and interest such as sport, performing arts, debating and public speaking, leadership and community involvement. These are places school where students can feel they belong, using their strengths and interests to continue to develop and grow as people. Our extra-curricular program is an important way in which we celebrate the diversity of talents within our school, and keep our community positively connected. Most importantly it is fun for our students! A particularly good example of this is the upcoming Variety Show. Look out for further information on how to get your tickets early in Term 3.
I wish all of our community a happy and safe holidays.
