Police and Fire Visitors

As part of community engagement work, the Primary students of Years 1-6, were fortunate to have members of the local Fire and Police teams visit and speak with groups about fire safety and awareness of fires in our local community.  The students' knowledge of fire safety was reviewed and grown. The opportunity for discussion and opportunity to ask questions of these men and women who do such a great job in keeping our community safe was well utilised by our students.

Home Reading

Studies show that reading for pleasure makes a big difference to a child's educational performance. Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures.

Once again in 2018, students are asked to spend up to 20 minutes  per night reading a personal book of choice. During time in the library with Belinda Bremner, students have been given the opportunity to borrow books for personal reading pleasure. When reading at home, students may choose to read aloud to a parent, have a parent read to them or they may choose to read independently. All forms of reading are beneficial.

Please find attached a personal reading log that students are invited to fill in and return to school each time they have completed 20 nights of reading. Completing the entire log will result in a "100 nights of reading" award presented at assembly. Students in Years 1 to 6 will be provided with a reading log. The PDF has also been attached should any student misplace their reading log and needs to print a new one.
