Maths News from 1/2
At the moment in 1/2 we are looking at Place Value. Our Learning Intentions for this unit are to:
-recognise that numbers can be broken up in many ways
-understand that our number system is based on groups of ten
-understand that the place of a number determines its value
In our Maths Groups we have been focusing on different ways of breaking up numbers so they are easier to count. Here are some responses about how we can break up large numbers:
-breaking numbers into 2's and 5's makes it easier to count because it's a quick way of counting (Alessia and Ella)
-break numbers into 10's because it makes bundles (Elijah)
-breaking 10 into 1,4,2,3 does not make it easy to count because they are not equal groups to count (Daniel C)
Here are a few pictures so you can see all the amazing thinking our 1/2 Mathematicians have done so far.
