Principal's Report

Welcome

Dear members of the St Raphael's school community,

It was a wonderful celebration last Wednesday at our Beginning of School Year/ Ash Wednesday Mass. Thanks to Fr Benneth for a beautiful ceremony and to our Senior Singers for the wonderful singing. It was great to see so many parents attend our first whole school mass for 2017.

What a fantastic evening last Friday at our Community Gathering. A huge thank you to the following people for making the community event such a great success:

  • Stuart Sloan and Sammy Santoro for organising the vintage cars.
  • Paula Moussa for designing and coordinating the publicity and posters for the event.
  • Ray White Real Estate (Preston) for sponsoring the large signage.
  • Fulvio Antonelli and Jeep Australia for donating the signed Juventus FC jersey (valued at over $600) for the auction prize.
  • Thanks also to Vin Hedger for coordinating the sausage sizzle and all the parents who assisted on the BBQ.
  • To our Fundraising Committee lead by Liliana Varvarigos and our SEB Treasurer, Filippa Brugliera, who coordinated the floats and money counting – you both quietly coordinate, support and assist with these important community events and make them happen without fuss behind the scenes. Thank you! We desperately need volunteers to run upcoming events like this and if you are a new or existing parent and you would like to assist with any upcoming community or fundraising event please email Liliana at: solidbricklaying@bigpond.com
  • And lastly, to the wonderful St Raphael’s staff for preparing and cooking the pizzas throughout the night. It was a great atmosphere in the pizzeria and our staff certainly go over and above their required duties for the benefit of our school community.

It was also great to see one of our ex-students, Aidan Sloan, cutting hair on the back of Fabian’s Barber Shop truck! A big thank you to the great Rockabilly band, The Strays, for performing for us on the night and adding a great atmosphere to the whole event.

These events are a reminder of the wonderful community we have at St Raphael’s. There were many positive comments from people who came along on Friday evening who are not part of our community.

I felt extremely proud of our children, school and whole school community on Friday night.

Religious Education Leadership

Last Thursday Fr Benneth, Rosalba Squarci and I were invited to attend the Catholic Education Melbourne's Mass and Dinner at St John the Evangelist’s Church and Catholic Leadership Centre in East Melbourne to celebrate the role of Religious Education Leaders in Catholic Schools. It was a lovely celebration and acknowledgment of the importance of Rosalba’s Religious Education Leadership role in our school.

Parent Teacher Interviews

A reminder to all aprents to book a time slot for the upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews on Monday 20th March. School will conclude at 1pm on this day.

If you need assistance with log in details for the PTO online booking system please contact Lynette Gamble in the office on: 9478 8374 or email: lgamble@srprestonwest.catholic.edu.au

These Parent Teacher Interviews are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s success, progress and any areas of concern that you may have at this point of the school year.

A newly-created Parent Teacher Interview Feedback form will be sent home in the coming days which will ask you for your insights into your child’s learning so far this year as well as provide you with an opportunity for you to highlight specific curriculum areas you would like your child’s teacher to focus on during the upcoming interview.

Please complete these forms and return to your child’s teacher by Tuesday 14th March to allow the teachers time to adequately prepare for the interviews.

Sausage Sizzle

We will be holding a sausage sizzle this Friday 10th March at lunchtime. $2.50/ sausage.
