Young Initiators Program

On the 11th  and 12th of April, the Centre for Multicultural Youth held the Young Initiators Program at the Denvegan Cottage.

Suzi Kibreab, Adoralynn Papalii Seu, and Ornella Niyonzima attended to explore their values and develop their leadership skills.

I attended on the first day to accompany our students, and Dora said that "it was all right. We got to know other people from different schools, and we learned more about being a leader."

Nella commented on the second day.  "It felt good to get out of my comfort zone and create new friendships when we played get to know me games.  We also played cultural music and had a bbq. We touched on multicultural issues, discrimination, and stereotypes.  We learnt how to make a change."

VICSEG Holiday Program

VICSEG New Futures is a not-for-profit organisation that offers scholarships to multicultural secondary students to stay in school and develop leadership skills.

On the 16th of April, our VICSEG scholars went on a city experience excursion.    Eleni Tulaga, Ornella Niyonzima, Roda Thangaw, Adoralynn Papalii Seu, and Agoi Chipuowuop met up at the train station at 8:30 to join the bigger group of students from other schools also in the program.

Agoi said they "went to the ACMI and saw the history of technology, video games, 3D games, and the technology gallery.  We also saw guys doing tricks with fire on the street when we walked around to the Yarra River."

Roda said they visited the laneway grafiti and that "the food was great" and everyone had fun.
