YEP

Term Two for the Staughton Youth Empowerment Process (YEP) class is very busy due to us starting our school based projects and fundraisers. Students have built upon leadership skills learnt during Term One to plan and run school-based group projects this term. These group projects have taught the basics of project management and allowed students to improve an aspect of our school community. Each group has written a small explanation of their project below.

Group One – Hey everyone, we are Y.E.P students Alana and Nichole, and we will be running a new lunchtime club called The Chillax Club every Friday, starting on the 20th of May in A3. The Chillax Club will help students wind down and chill out, using fun activities and art projects such as calm colouring. The Chillax Club gives students a safe place to relax and take their mind off their anxieties and stresses about school before the weekend. Come along to A3 on a Friday to take part in The Chillax Club.

Group Two – Hey, students and parents, we are trying to raise money to get new equipment and facilities for our school gym. We have contacted local businesses to get donations and, starting from the 17th of May, we'll be doing a "guess how many" fundraiser for YEP on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have a different jar of lollies for each year level to guess, and one jar for staff to guess. The staff jar is filled with maltesers, the Year 7 jar is filled with sour worms, the Year 8 jar is filled with red frogs, the Year 9 jar is filled with skittles, the Year 10 jar is filled with snakes, and the Year 11/12 jar is filled with smarties. It costs 50c for one guess and we will be coming around to classes twice weekly. If you have any questions, ask Ms. Clancy, Rachel Portelli, Jessica Mitrevski, Fourlove Sein, Amelia Anticevic or Riley Wilson.

Group Three – Hello, we are Caleb, Skylah, Antoni and Taylah, we are part of the YEP class from Staughton College, and we are running a bake sale! Our goal is to raise funds for the Breakfast Club at Staughton College, which takes place twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Breakfast Club doesn’t get much funding, so our goal is to raise funds so that students can eat a decent breakfast before school.

Group Four – Hey, students and parents, on the 14th of June we will be running a school barbeque to fundraise for new hand dryers in Staughton bathrooms. On the day we will have sausages (with or without onion) for $2, fairly floss for $1 and soft drink cans for $2. The barbeque will be held out the front of the Food Technology rooms. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Ms Clancy, Ben McIntosh, Jason Anastasi, Freedom Moeau and Ian Pilapil.

Group Five – Hey guys, students from the YEP class, Jemma, Andrea, Kelsey, Alani and Dylan, will be selling cupcakes and milo on the 2nd of June to raise money for youth homelessness. We aim to raise money for the Lighthouse Foundation, which is a charity dedicated to helping homeless youth by housing and feeding them. This project links back to our group’s vision of being kind, compassionate and good leaders amongst our peers. Cupcakes will be $2.50, Milo will be $1.50, and together both are $3.50. Thanks for your support!

Group Six – On Thursday, the 23rd of June, members of the YEP class, Shylah, Tara, Jayde and Chelsea, will be running a Carnival Foods Lunch, with all proceeds going towards building a vegetable garden at Staughton. At the lunch, students can buy fairy floss for $1.50, toffee apples for $2.00, popcorn for $1.50, and sausages in bread for $2.00, with cheese and onion 50 cents extra each – cans of drink will cost $2.00. We are fundraising to hopefully build a school garden that is capable of providing some fresh produce to help Food Technology classes and to educate students on healthy eating habits.
