Teenage Radio Stars Improving Literacy and Learning New Skills
The latest team from BSC doing radio training consists of Kohen Williams, Zeon Kitchingman, Kane McCallum, Alex Glen, Tim Williams and Neroli O’Keefe.
“We are so good at radio that we are doing it on the go” says Kohen. The goal is to pre-record an episode of Teenage Radio Stars without the need for editing. We’re getting there.
“Here at Teenage Radio Stars we record songs and let you all listen to them” says Zeon. “So enjoy our songs and if you want, chip in and help out MainFM by subscribing” he adds in the lead up to MainFM’s Radiothon week.
“I think the radio station is definitely a different experience” says Kane. “It’s better than school. It’s fun and you get to listen to the music you like on the radio”.
The students are rotated through all the roles necessary to put a show to air: programming music, working the desk, on air announcing and editing. The group works collaboratively to ensure the music is appropriate to an early morning audience.
Teenage Radio Stars airs at 7am on Monday mornings on 94.9 MainFM.
