Magis report

Congratulations to all Year 7 students who presented Personal Projects at last week’s Exhibition, and warmest thanks to all parents, teachers and students who attended at the breakfast or during the day.  The award for Best Project went to Kai Cranfield for his amazing working on Terraforming Mars, with Elsie Samson, Poppy Hartfield and Sophie Kirk equal second narrowly ahead of Luisa Parish and Jennifer Ong. However all students achieved 75% or better.  A Personal Project collage is attached with this report.

Congratulations to our first ever International Debating team of Thomas Syminton, Gemma Bailey, Austin Vujcich and  Max Watt who represented the College admirably in this strong competition. The team was unlucky to narrowly lose their final debate last Friday,  but won two of their four debates and hopefully will have laid the foundation for John XXIII College to compete with a significant number of teams in 2021. International Debating has been an excellent, extremely well-organised event.

This week we have two Year 7 teams competing in the 2020 Quest Competition.  Results will be in next week’s newsletter.  Also attached next week will be a link to the Magis Chronicle which contains detailed results and records for the year.  It contains well over 200 colour photos and will be also available for purchase as a glossy hard cover book. The PDF version is free, but naturally the glossy book will contain lasting memories of both individual and team successes in both house and interschool events, as well as other highlights like the Magis Camp, Global Goals Program, and Personal Project Exhibitions.

Finally, also attached is a Magis opportunities document highlighting three excellent upcoming opportunities for gifted students:   Inspire in 5 (STEM) on  30 November, and  two great holidays programs,  the Brainways Summer Camp (Maths Science or Humanities programs), and Edith Cowan University’s CREATE workshops – free STEM Workshops held over three days in January. Please contact  Mr Miller for further details or to nominate.
