Grade 5 Snapshot - Term 4/Week 4-5

Writing
Students have been using their own narrative writing pieces to revise and edit their work. They have focused on making the correct Word Choices and using Tier 2 Vocabulary to show precision in their writing. Students have been adding Figurative Language to make their writing more interesting for the reader. They have also been working on the correct use of quotation marks in their writing. Next week they will move onto creating a Persuasive piece of text called a Discussion Text. They will look at the structure and features of a discussion text and work on planning, drafting and publishing their own piece.
Reading
This week students have continued their focus on figurative language. They have applied their knowledge by creating a poster to persuade people using figurative language. They also applied this new skill to improve their writing. Guided Reading lessons have continued this week. Students have each had a time to meet with their teacher in a small group to focus on the strategies and skills they need to develop as readers.
