Resilience Project

Religious Education

This term we will be focusing on ‘Prayer’.

Big Idea: Why is prayer important?

Driving Questions:

  • Why do we pray?
  • Who do we pray to?
  • Where can we pray?
  • When can we pray?
  • How do we pray?

The students will learn about different types of prayers e.g. prayers of thanks, prayers of petition, prayers used in liturgy (Hail Mary).  The students will make their own ‘Prayer Bags’ and learn to create their own prayers.

We will conclude the year with our unit on Advent and Christmas. In this unit, students learn about the seasons of Advent and Christmas. They explore the concepts of waiting and joyful anticipation that are expressed through the use of the Advent wreath. Advent is introduced as a time of preparation that points us towards Jesus Christ. The Christmas story is told through the stories of the Annunciation, the birth of Jesus Christ, and the visit of the shepherds.

Resilience Project

This term the students will be participating in the Resilience Project. They will learn about ‘what makes a good friend’ and how to talk about their feelings and emotions. Students will explore make strategies to help manage emotions and feelings such as different breathing exercises to help alleviate anxiety to control and help release stress. They will also be encouraged to use manners when talking to others.

These are fantastic skills that will assist them when transitioning to Grade One next year.
