Schools for Student Leadership

Kristen Raine

For those current Year 8 students who are interested in applying for the School for Student Leadership in 2021, applications are now open.

The School for Student Leadership (SSL) is a Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development initiative offering a unique residential education experience for Year 9 students. We are lucky enough to be allocated a place at the Alpine campus in Term 3 of 2021 and the MSC team will consist of 3 boys and 3 girls.

To be successful, students need to demonstrate their experiences in working in teams, undertaking leadership responsibilities, knowledge of the School for Student Leadership, as well as strategies they will use to overcome homesickness and ideas they have for the Community Learning Project.

Application forms can be collected from the Year 8 office. For more information, check out the website http://www.alpineschool.vic.edu.au/ or contact Kristen Raine on 5147 1790 or Kristen.raine@education.vic.gov.au

Congratulations to the 2019 SSL Team, consisting of: Sarah Dekkers, Katie Driffield, Jamie Lenne, Angus Neaves, Ed Phelan-Penson and Jackson Jacobs, who have successfully completed their Community Learning Project. These students researched, developed and presented a proposal to Wellington Shire Council for the development of a pump track in Maffra. After months of hard work communicating and networking with a large number of stakeholders, the development of a pump track in Maffra has now become a reality, with funding and planning very much underway for the project to be completed in 2021.

Well done to these students, who have worked tirelessly on their CLP. You will inspire others to persevere with their goals and create positive change in our community.
