Assistant Principal's Report

Orientation Day

Tuesday 8th December 2020

On Orientation Day, Warrnambool College will run 2021 year 8 and year 12 classes on campus. These students will not be interacting with the 2021 year 7 students as per DET operational guidelines.

All other year levels will have work provided for students to access at home and complete as a single learning task per year level. This work will be disseminated via Compass Learning Tasks.

There will be no Country Day orientation day on Monday 7th December (where we would normally have grade 6s from smaller schools come on-site for the day).

Exam Schedule for Years 7 to 10

For their Literacy Assessment, students will complete an online Progressive Achievement Test for Reading Comprehension (PAT-R) under exam conditions (40mins) in the school Hall. This will provide important information about your child’s reading level and enable us to assess their growth over the school year (they were first tested in February).

For their Numeracy Assessment, students will complete an online Progressive Achievement Test in Mathematics (PAT-M) to be conducted under exam conditions (45mins) in Maths class. When combined with the Maths Pathways learning program this will provide important information about your child’s proficiency in the concepts of the Mathematics curriculum.

The objective is twofold. Firstly, it will provide important data about your child’s learning growth this year and enable us to build 2021 class profiles to plan and prepare for your child’s learning needs in readiness for their transition into their next year. This is particularly important given the year we have had with not one but two stints of remote learning. Secondly, it builds on students’ exposure to the formal exam process conducive to life-skills and academic success.
