For anyone needing to purchase a calculator for 2021 – either scientific or CAS – Abacus Calculators will offer a cheaper price than what appears on the booklist.
Please refer to the fliers below to see all details needed for purchase. You are also able to order a spare battery for your CAS calculator – make sure you note the model you have as there is a new version of the CAS calculator.
For those who think Maths is boring, here is a screenshot from a breakout room during lockdown with Ms Murtagh.

Religious Education
Dear Nazareth Community
We have had a welcome return to in-person classes with many happy students enjoying the freedom of attending school. The Youth Ministry students have missed their sacramental outreach liturgies with the feeder primary schools. Many skills are gained when students are put before an audience and empowered to run an all-day event. To help mitigate this and ensure the current 10 Youth Ministry class has the basic skill set, online liturgies with the Year 11 Youth Academy students were organised. Growth was noticeable from the earlier attempt, with many comments from the 11s to this effect.
Other RE classes are working on their last assessment tasks for the term. It is a busy time for all students and staff.
May God bless us as we regain the momentum here at Nazareth, in person, again.

Music
All musical ensembles have finally said goodbye to Zoom rehearsals, internet glitches and sound delays and have begun rehearsing together in real time at the College. Instrumental lessons have also recommenced in real time for all instruments and certain instruments are taking place outdoors to adhere to the current restrictions.
The Year 7 Junior Band were extremely excited to finally rehearse for the first time together last Friday afterschool and outdoors with Mr Cornelius.
We would like to remind all families to complete and submit Instrumental Lesson Forms by 27 November. These can be accessed through SIMON: Performing Arts: Knowledge Banks. In 2021 instrumental lesson fees will be added to the school fees account.

Vinnies Assist A Student Appeal
Today the Vinnies ran the annual 'Assist A student Appeal', by having a free dress/casual dress day. The aim of the day was for each Pastoral Group to raise the $70.00 that is needed to educate a child in a less developed country for the next 12 months. This was our third year of running this appeal, which has been incredibly successful in the past. When we consider the difference that education makes in a child's life, it can be the springboard to a better life and an escape from the poverty cycle.
Each student was asked to donate between $3.00 - $5.00 today. We are still accepting donations and will do until the end of next week. We thank you for supporting this appeal and your continued generosity.

Honouring our Frontline Medical Workers
A Tribute to the Medical Front-liners of COVID-19
To save all lives is your utmost desire.
Despite your fear, you are still on fire.
When your patients are weak and their future seems bleak,
Your efforts are worth more than any words we speak.
In the midst of adversity, you confront your anxiety
As the virus ravages the world with ruthless atrocity.
Despite the high death toll with the engulfing sorrow and pain,
Remember that your labour has never been in vain.
With courage as your weapon and love in your heart,
You tread the path of this war and hope we do our part.
Thank you for doing everything that’s well beyond our reach,
Our gratitude to you indeed transcends eloquent speech.
You keep pressing on, having no intention to retire.
With your steadfast tenacity, the whole globe you inspire.
We can overcome this battle when we work hand-in-hand
Without being despondent, united we must stand.

Blessing Bags
On Remembrance Day, the Year 11 Youth Academy Team created ‘blessing bags’ for homeless men for the Christmas season. Items generously donated by our community, such as toiletries, snack bars, socks, handmade floor mats and scarves, were packed into these bags with love. Also mindful of our environment and future implications, we sought out to use reusable tote bags. Each student then wrote into a card to accompany their bag, varying from wishes of hope and cheer to acknowledging that we are always praying for them in hope of a beautiful life.
I think what we can all learn from this experience is that even through a pandemic, we can choose to be generous and bring light into someone's life with things so simple that we often take for granted. Though we cannot end poverty and homelessness with a spin of a wand, each little step we take together will accumulate and ultimately result in a better, kinder world.
On behalf of the Youth Academy Team, I thank Ms Robert for facilitating this idea and letting us take part in such a rewarding experience, as well as our community for acting with compassion and contributing to this valuable cause.
