Nude Food Day - 5 November

Read all about the need for Nude Food at schools and join us for Nude Food Day at BPS 5th November 2020.

An initiative of the BPS Climate Change Team, Junior School Council and Grade 5 & 6 students.

Written by Grade 5 students:

What is Nude food?

  • Nude Food is food without excess packaging.
  • This reduces the amount of 'stuff' that needs to go in bins to be sent to landfill.
  • Durable, reusable containers are a great way to bring food, as they may last from preschool through to high school and beyond, providing long term cost savings and environmental benefits.

Why do we need it?

We need to do this for the sake of the environment and our future. Our schools are full of rubbish because people don’t understand fully the impact of rubbish on the ground. Rubbish from our school goes down the drains and straight into our bay, where we swim with our friends and families and where wildlife mistakes our rubbish for food.

It is time to change for the better.

We need a cleaner environment.

Some of the impacts on the environment are:

  • The school is getting dirty and disgusting.
  • Animals think rubbish is food and are eating it and dying.
  • The rubbish washes into the bay and pollutes our water, kills the animals, and makes our beautiful ocean get brown and gross.

Are you sure you want this to happen?

It’s a little price to literally save LIVES!

If you want to save lives go NUDE - Nude Food!

This is what happens when our rubbish ends up in the ocean.

When will Nude Food Day be at BPS?

Nude food will be starting on Thursday 5th of November, so you have plenty of time to start adjusting to our schools new earth friendly ways!

Make sure to pack NO waste! But you can pack beeswax wraps and natural skins (I’m talking about banana peels, etc)

How

A nude food lunchbox:

What you can see

  • A beeswax wrap that is reusable
  • Fruits which are biodegradable
  • Vegetables in a reusable container
  • Cookies in a reusable container

Not a nude food lunchbox:

What you can see:

  • Popcorn, grain bites and Muesli bar are not in a reusable packet.
  • Sandwich & banana in plastic wrap.
  • A yogurt drink pack.

Things to avoid:

There are a number of things to avoid when it comes to making a nude lunchbox and some of these things may be a little reminder as to how much packaging usually goes into a lunchbox.

  • Plastic wraps and foils.
  • Pre-packaging juice boxes, yoghurts and cheeses
  • Plastic forks and spoons
  • Pre-packaged foods such as biscuits, chips and muesli bars

Things to bring:

There are many possible options for nude food lunches!

  • reusable packaging
  • organic products
  • fruits and vegetables!
  • beeswax wraps

Thanks! ❤︎
