LAPTOPS

Students in Years 8 to 12 are required to return their laptop at the end of the year as it is the end of the lease for these models. New laptops, along with new bags, will be issued to students in Years 7, 9, 10 and 11 at the beginning of 2021 on Fee Payment and Laptop Collection Day, Thursday January 21, 2021. 2021 Year 12 students will receive their new laptops in December this year.

We are very excited to announce the new laptop model – HP ProBook x360 435 for students. This laptop adapts throughout the day, enabling students to create, present and collaborate with four user modes. A touch screen is just one of the many features students will appreciate as well as a versatile 360 degree design which should provide students with a more durable product. Some specifications of the new model that may interest you:

  • AMD Ryzen™ 5 processor
  • Windows 10 Home 64
  • 13.3" diagonal FHD IPS eDP BrightView WLED-backlit touch screen (1920 x 1080)
  • 8 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB)
  • 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ SSD
  • Impressive design backed by power and security
  • AMD Radeon™ Graphics
  • 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 charging); 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™); 1 headphone/microphone combo; 1 HDMI 1.4b.

Students need to ensure that they have backed up information that is stored on their current laptop, as the devices are being returned to the lease company who will erase all data from the laptops upon collection. It is important to check that work folders are under the 1GB limit. If a student’s work folder is over 1GB, not all files in the work folders will transfer over to the new laptop. We recommend that students keep their important work backed up on an external hard drive or a home computer. If you have any questions regarding the backing up of laptops, please contact inttec@sjcmda.vic.edu.au

Laptops must be returned by students to LP8/9 classrooms, where a Library/Inttec staff member will issue a receipt upon receiving the laptop. Students are reminded of their designated return days below.

AWARDS NIGHT

This year has been like no other, but we continue to be impressed with the determination, resilience and motivation of our students to achieve at the highest level. Unfortunately, this year we are unable to host our annual Awards Night, however we feel it is very important to recognise the efforts of our students. Therefore, given the current restrictions, the college is planning to celebrate the achievements of our students by holding an Awards Presentation in lieu of the Awards Night.

Students who are receiving an award will be invited to the Awards Presentation on Monday December 14, 2020 from 5.15pm. To comply with social distancing requirements, each award category will be issued a specific time to be acknowledged and receive their award in the Enright Room at the Enright Campus.

Awardees will celebrate their achievement with the Executive Team, followed by a photograph and will only be required on campus for approximately 15 minutes.

Students are required to wear their full summer uniform with their blazer whilst attending the presentation. Families of award winners will be notified via a School Activity notification on PAM and via text message with their allocated time.  We ask that you please RSVP by Friday December 11, 2020. Those students who attend the Awards Presentation will be gifted a voucher as well as a certificate. The college will post certificates to those students who are unable to attend the Awards Presentation.

Year 7 to 10 Academic Awards

Each student receives a score using information about their assessment tasks which is collected from their reports and recorded in a database. This data ranks students according to the % of assessment tasks of the grades awarded. The top 10% of students in each of Years 7 to 10 will be presented with academic awards.

VCE Unit 1 and 2

VCE Unit 1 and 2 subject awards are given to those students who achieve the highest score in each subject. The score is based on the scores they received for unit assessment tasks and the subject exam.

VCE Unit 3 and 4

VCE Unit 3 and 4 subject awards are given to those students who achieve the highest score in each subject. The score is based on the VCAA study scores they received for Unit 3 and Unit 4.

VCAL Awards

The VCAL Awards are given to students who have, over the course of the year, demonstrated excellent planning and organisational skills. They are able to work effectively with others as part of a team as well as showing good leadership and team management skills.

Along with academic awards, a number of Special Awards will be given at the Awards Presentation. We look forward to celebrating and congratulating our students on all their efforts this year.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY

An opportunity exists in 2021 for a student taking a gap year to work in a full time capacity as a trainee at St Joseph’s College. The traineeship will be in the Certificate III in Education Support. This is an 18-month certificate, but will be packaged so that it can be completed in 12 months

The focus areas of this traineeship will be the numeracy electives and the trainee will work to support maths teachers in working with junior maths students, especially those who need a modified program. An essential criteria will be that the successful applicant must be a competent maths student.

The traineeship is full time (38 hours per week) which includes time to undertake study to complete each of the competencies.  A trainer will guide you through each of these competencies and observe how you are progressing. You will also have a teacher mentor from the college who will be able to provide you support as well. At all times you will be under the supervision of a teacher when in the classroom.

The wage will vary according to age and other considerations but will be approximately $480 per week.
