Premier’s Be Active Challenge Excursion on 9/11/22

Home grown heroes bring home zeroes!

Many moons ago, in a time long before many of our class can remember, Clovelly Park Primary signed up to partake in the Premier’s Be Active Challenge. We went about our daily business and quietly recorded physical activity for the week. The goal was that we, as a collective, would complete at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, at least five times per week for four consecutive weeks.

So we did. Children from across the school started recording their bike rides to school, the time they spent walking their dogs, their memories in the yard at recess and lunch - all striving to succeed in their mission of one hour of physical activity a day, five times a week, for four weeks.

Four weeks passed and success! We achieved it! We felt great, we felt happy, and we felt successful. So we kept going, continuing to record our adventures and continuing to enjoy the benefits of an active life style.

Then things slowly teetered off and we stopped recording, but we still made an effort to be physically active and reap the rewards of our new habits. Then one day a phone buzzed. ‘We’re awaiting your response’, the voice said.

We heard of an email that had been sent to a staff member no longer

working with us, that hadn’t gotten through to us, that we’d done it and we were being acknowledged for our efforts! ‘Great,’ we thought. We went chasing for this email and read it. We weren’t just being acknowledged, we were considered ‘high achieving’. ‘Superb!’ ‘A big well done to all of our students that took part!’.

It got better. As a ‘high achiever’, we were invited to attend a special awards ceremony. The school was awarded a whopping $1,000 and was asked to send two students on a fun filled day to explore a number of sports and accept the award in person. ‘Wow!’ We scanned the logs and selected two befitting participants - Jacinta and Ollie from Y7.

Before we knew it, we were on our way into town to the Netball stadium and were ready to get physical. The day was an absolute blast, and the students had opportunities for tutelage from genuine superstars – AFLW players, former Olympians, State level athletes – people that really knew their stuff! They ran us through drills for soccer, field hockey and rugby union. To top it all off we were then treated to a dance showcase and a circus routine. To finish off a great day, we accepted our award on behalf of the school for our ‘high achievement’ from none other than Mr Peter Malinauskas, Premier of South Australia and Blair Boyer, South Australian Minister for Education. What a day!

Remembrance Day

As part of a whole school learning task, G1 and G2 joined together to learn about the importance of Remembrance Day and make wreaths. Remembrance Day is a special day when we remember all the soldiers who have fought for our freedom. We discussed current wars and how we would be recognising the men and women who are currently fighting for our freedom. Remembrance Day is the date the First World War ended in 1918 at 11a.m. We learnt that the first Remembrance Day was held on 11th November 1919, one year after the war ended.

Australian soldiers have fought in many battles. We remember them and are thankful that they fought for our freedom.

We also held a special Remembrance Day Assembly. Students presented their wreaths and hung them on the front gates of the school to honour those who have fought for our freedom.

Watch out for our Christmas Stall - on Wednesday 30th November & Thursday 1st December! Items for sale include socks, spoons, pens, crafts, ornaments and much more.

Bunnings Warehouse Family Market Night

Where: South Road, Edwardstown

When: Thursday 8th December 2022

Time: 6pm to 8pm

Our school has been invited to hold a stall at the Bunnings Edwardstown store to sell some items to raise money for our school. All money raised will go towards purchasing new readers for our students. During this event, Ascot Park Scouts will be running big games and Christmas craft for kids, providing free fairy floss, free sausage sizzle and lots more. Santa may also be roaming the store.
