Principal's Report
December 2022
The year of 2022 will once again be remembered by all of us for the complexities that it brought. The hurdles and challenges of COVID that we faced this year impacted us as did the worst flooding the state has experienced in decades.
Given all of this, our college’s vision “to achieve success for our community through respect, responsibility and collaboration” combined with our three values of respect, achievement and responsibility and the school motto of “Learn, Grow, Achieve Together” continues to underpin all of our work. Our vision is the lens that we use in looking and planning towards our future. The college has again refocused on its core work of improving student engagement and student outcomes as well as providing students additional opportunities to grow academically, socially, culturally, and emotionally through its programs.
As Principal of this school, I acknowledge the tireless commitment that both the college staff and our school community have put into supporting students over the past few years. Over the year our teachers and students adjusted very quickly regardless of the continuous changes amid COVID while maintaining a sense of structure and routine. They showed adaptability and resilience throughout the pandemic. We are fortunate to have a hard-working, caring, and dedicated team of staff who prioritize our students. I thank all of our teachers, our teaching assistants, and our support staff, who collaborate tirelessly and who always go above and beyond to ensure that every student gets the best experience possible. Alongside this, our students deserve recognition for their passion for learning. Thank you also for the support and partnership of our fantastic parental community.
I also thank the college’s Leadership for their commitment, their professionalism, and their efforts. In 2022, the college’s leadership team has overseen and driven our planned work with much focus, skill, and determination overcoming all the challenges that appeared. Our College Executive team, comprising of our Assistant Principals; Ms Aylin Gokmen, Ms Melanie Hayward, and Ms Leyna Buller together with our Business Manager, Ms Renay Moulton, have worked tirelessly, and have led us to much success. Our House Assistant Principals overseeing our student teams, Ms Robyn Bewley (Lang House), Mr Michael Mann (Pyke House), Mr Matthew Bykersma (Barak House) and Ms Kelsey Ryan (Watts House) as well as our Educational leaders; Mr Domenic Snape, Ms Jill Magee, Ms Carmela Sant, Mr Eddy Hill, Mr Chris Ronalds, and Mr Patrick Eldridge should be all congratulated for their exceptional commitment and outstanding leadership. Well done to all of you.
Our Student Leaders continue to be an integral and important part of our college. We are very grateful and thank them for everything that they have done. In particular, I wish to mention our school captains, Elisha Deo & Lauren Maitland our College vice captains, Will Murray and Jordan Hayden, who have been exceptional role models and effective influences on the culture of the student cohort. I thank them for their contributions to the wider school community and their commitment in honouring the values of our school.
I would like to thank all the College Council members for their great work on both College Council and its subcommittees over the year. Your support in implementing our AIP as well as your work in ensuring that all financial decisions are made after careful consideration of the needs of the College as well as the vision that we are always endeavouring to achieve is fundamental to the college’s overall success.
A final word to the students of Kurunjang Secondary College. I am very honoured and privileged to be your principal and I thank you all for your hard work throughout the school year. To the graduating class of 2022, we wish you well with the pathway that you follow from this point onward.
As always, we have a lot to look forward to in 2023.
