Grade 2 English

Over the last two weeks, the Grade 2 students have been working on their ability to use dictionaries to determine the spelling and meaning of unfamiliar words. They have used dictionaries to identify nouns, verbs and adjectives and furthered their application of alphabetical order. 

We culminated our unit on dictionary skills by making Dictionary Dan and Daisy. This activity required students to choose a word from a given list and then use a dictionary to determine the correct spelling, meaning, part of speech, and guide words for their chosen word. 

This activity gave students further opportunity to revise concepts we have covered previously in English, such as synonyms, antonyms and syllables. Students enjoyed applying their skills to this fun activity and continued to advance their self-management and collaborative skills.
