Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Brigid’s,

What is Melbourne's weather doing! The rain just does not want to go away and let the sunshine in. Our children haven’t been able to get outside and have a decent play all week. The rain likes to come halfway through our recess and lunch breaks. Hopefully, we will start to see some warm weather very soon.

Class structure for 2023

Our class structure for 2023 will be as follows:

Foundation x1 class

Year 1 x 1 class

Year 1/2  x 2 classes

Year 3/4 x 3 classes

Year 5 x 1 class

Year 6 x 2 classes

Classes, whether composite or straight. are dependent on numbers and what will work best for the year levels. This year we have more straight classes than usual and this is based on numbers.

Congratulations

I would like to say a big Congratulations to Cassie, Ellen and Heather who have moved from provisionally registered to fully registered teachers.  The process involved takes nearly 12 months and requires each of them to complete a written project and then when the project is completed they have to orally present to myself and their mentor teacher. I have to say each of them presented an excellent project which they all agreed enhanced their teaching practice and confidence. Well done Cassie, Ellen and Heather we are very proud of you!

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Due to the weather (again) we had to move the Sacrament of Reconciliation from the Church to our Hall. We were very proud of the children, they were so reverent and respectful during this private sacrament and participated fully. They all said they were very nervous, but after they had their time with either Fr Andrew or Fr Ignatious they said they were very proud of themselves. Class teachers will distribute the individual photos to the parents. Congratulations to you all.

School Advisory Council

We had our Annual General Meeting of the School Advisory Council on Tuesday night. I want to thank the Board members - Allie, Mel, Belinda, Dan, Carolyn and Jen for their commitment and support they have given me to further improve our school. I would also like to thank Sonia, Alex and Krista for attending the meetings as well. It is great to have a cross section of our community at the meetings and hearing their thoughts.

It is also a time to say goodbye to Jen (Fundraising) and Caroline (General member) who are stepping down from their role on the School Advisory Council. Jen's work in the Fundraising sphere has been amazing and she has worked tirelessly to ensure our fundraising activities have been so successful.

If anyone would like to join our council as a general  member, please come and see me, it is a worthwhile experience and if you need some more information about the role see myself or any of the council members.

Camping experiences

The children in 1/2 are looking forward to their camping experience tonight with lots of singing, dancing and cooking to be had!

Our Year 4’s camp is coming up in a couple of weeks and they are very excited about their overnight stay and exploring the city. The Year 4 camp is from Wednesday 30th November to Thursday 1st December.

St Brigid's Carols Night & Christmas Market

This year we are holding our first ever combined Christmas Market and Christmas Carol night on Friday 9th December.  Our Market will run from 4:00pm until 5:00pm and our Christmas Carols will commence at 5:00pm. The children have been practicing their singing in Performing Arts with Mrs Hampton and are making a prop in Art  with Mrs Kimball.

Families are welcome to bring a picnic (and a chair or rug) to enjoy during our Carols and we will also have sausages in bread and choc tops for sale.

St Vincent de Paul - Christmas Food Appeal

Our annual Christmas Food Drive for St Vincent's is on again. We will be collecting food for the Mordialloc Branch of St Vincent de Paul culminating in a 'Christmas Dress Up Day' on Friday 2nd of December!  This year more than ever St Vincents have record numbers of people in need.
