Live4Life Crew

On Monday 7th November Ms Townley went out with 5 of our Live4Life Crew members in Year 9: Gretchen Clarke, Jazzy Ramsbottom, Zoe Couper, Anna Rowe and Faith Jonathan. It was a beautiful day where all the Crew from the seven schools in Bass Coast and South Gippsland came together and celebrated a first successful semester of implementing Live4Life’s Teen Mental Health First Aid in our Year 8 cohort.

We started with some outdoor games (in the sunshine!) and then had a Welcome to Country ceremony to appreciate the land that we met on, followed by all the Crew learning about the purpose of advocacy and how to be an advocate in our community. We had a delicious lunch of sausages and burgers, and finished with mini golf and painting. Mary MacKillop College is very proud of our Crew as they represented our school fabulously and will continue to promote good mental health in our community into 2023.

Picnic at Hanging Rock Performance

This week, Year 11 Theatre Studies students performed the recontextualised rendition of Picnic at Hanging Rock to a full house in a lunchtime performance. The Modern Australian Gothic style of Theatre combined iconic literary moments from the novel and film text, as three fan girls retraced the steps of the missing girls from the 1900s. Although the original story is well known among most teachers, students were unfamiliar with the urban myth of the missing girls, and many jumped on board the need to solve the mystery.

The poetic style of writing was supported by strong performances by the Year 11’s, who played multiple characters. The audience were wowed by the set transformation, as the projected backdrops depicted the Macedon Ranges and Hanging Rock. The location was reinforced by a continuous soundscape, of native wild life and an increasing drone that took the audience deep into the timeless mystery.
