Understanding Adolescence

Adolescence is a significant developmental stage marking the movement form childhood to adulthood. Many of our students experience the emergence of their self-identity, explore personal interests, beliefs, values and goals. With the increased autonomy beyond the family comes the added responsibility and potential to become involved in high risk behaviours. Adolescents seek independence and this requires negotiation and sometimes ground conceded by parents. Boundaries must be ever expanding as adolescents mature.

The bumpy ride

Not all teenagers navigate their way through the peaks and troughs of adolescence. Parenting teenagers can be challenging and rewarding. Often adolescence go through phenomenal changes which significantly impact their brains.
