Reformation and Grace

On Monday the Lutheran Church celebrated Reformation Day.

In the early days of the Christian church, Paul wrote to the believers in Ephasus, describing this love and grace to them. I like The Message Bible version of this:

Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving.

Ephesians 2:7-10 The Message

Five centuries ago, Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk, nailed 95 theses to a church door, sparking a movement for change in the church. Luther’s study of the Bible led him to realise that we are not saved by our efforts to do good or by paying money to the church; rather, we are saved by God’s grace and through faith in Jesus.

I am blessed every day to have a loving Father God who gives me freedom to make choices about my life, big and small, and then continues loves me unconditionally, regardless of how many mistakes I make. God’s forgiveness through Christ doesn’t just hide my mistakes. It works inside me to change me and remove my mistakes. It’s like they never existed. Thanks be to God!

Staffing News

Many of our families will know Mrs Claire Sheridan, who has been on maternity and parenting leave throughout the latter half of 2021, and all of 2022. I can now share that Claire has decided to resign her position at St Paul, as she and her family enjoy a ‘tree change’ in country living near Claire’s family home. Please join me in praying for every blessing for Claire and her family as they learn and grow together in their new home.
