Applying online
For those students looking for a part time or casual job to build on their employability skills and gain workforce experience, the following links will take you to the application process of the most popular employers for secondary students.
As explained to students, often these large retailers will keep you in their system until a suitable vacancy is available. It can take several months to secure your first casual role, so never give up.
The Direct Approach
Many opportunities have been caught this way! Students are encouraged to visit a local retailer, such as the smaller, independent retailers, with a resume and introduce themselves. Be prepared for a possible on-the-spot interview. Know your resume well and ensure you are well presented.
Resumes and Interview Tips
An up-to-date and well-presented resume is important. Students have been provided with a template resume from the careers office and are always welcome to send their resume through for feedback. Students can also create their own resume from a variety of templates through the career tools website Good News Lutheran College (goodnewscareers.com) For further information on resumes or practice for interviews, please contact the Careers Office.
Separate to paid work, is also an opportunity to volunteer and gain those important transferrable employability skills. Volunteering is highly regarded by future employers and should always be included on your resume. Wyndham City runs the Volunteer Program for ages 14-19 at several of the local libraries. This opportunity will re-commence in February 2023 and students will be sent information prior, if they are interested.
