Mental Mania
For my creative piece for this assessment, I have chosen to create a portrait of two different, well-renowned characters from the famous TV show, Winnie the Pooh. I have chosen two characters, Eeyore and Winnie the Pooh, from the all-time favourite children’s TV show. Essentially, this is to relate the characters to contemporary issues society faces, particularly regarding mental health.
I have completed a cross stitch of a deep-sea anglerfish. In the open ocean, they grow to 18 centimeters in size, living at depths of at least 2000 meters. This species lives its life in the complete absence of sunlight.
My second cross stitch is of a sea angel which is a type of swimming snail. The muscular foot found in land snails has evolved into a pair of winglike structures called parapodia that are used for swimming in open water.
Canard Paisible
Medium - Ceramics
Artist Statement: What I’ve tried to create is a scene of ducks at a pond. Some are on the side, some are swimming, and one focal duck is centered on an island in the middle of the pond. I painted leaf and flower patterns on the side using real plants to add more to the essence of environment. Ducks really inspired this piece because of the calm they bring me whenever I watch them. They do look like any other bird, but I like their simplicity and lack of complex. Canard Paisible is peaceful duck in French (according to Google translate).
Blinded by my psyche
Medium - charcoal
My final piece Blinded by my psyche (2022) connects with one’s inevitable entrapment from their internal hatred. I like to think my work represents a part of myself only I know.
Find The Pride of The Lion Within Your Heart
Medium - Acrylic paints
Through my painting, I want everyone else to see that they can 'find the pride of the lion within [their own] heart[s]'. They can be happy, they can be confident and they can enjoy life if they can just change the way they choose to look at the world. Everyone has the power to amplify their voice and stand proudly, but in the end it really comes down to whether they can find the courage to 'roar'!
The Vine That Wouldn’t Let Go
Medium - Air dry clay
My ceramic artwork titled The Vine That Wouldn’t Let Go displays a porcelain hand that is intertwined with a vine and struggling to free themselves, the raw edge of the vine and the veins popping out of the skin is to display a great effort against the plants with the raw edge indicating that the vines were snapped off.
Impurities
Medium - Acrylic paint on canvas, pen, and cold-pressed paper
Throughout the time I’ve been working on my piece, ‘impurities’ (2022).
Colour Theory
Medium - Water colour
My piece, "Colour Theory," created in 2022 with water colour and many different sized paint brushes, depicts a girl that feels one with nature and marine life.
White lies
Medium - Acrylic paint
My final piece, "White Lies" (2022), which I created using acrylic paint on canvas. I’ve always loved pop art and comic book style, as I find that it can look simplistic but is still very detailed and bold, especially through the different contrasted colours used.
My family
Medium - Acrylic paint
I decided to call this artwork ‘my family’ because it shows my family and our traditional culture. For this artwork I used acrylic paint for most of it and at the end I put some smaller details with coloured pencil.
Movement to create
Mediums - Paint on canvas board and embroidery thread
The artwork was made by dancing on a piece of canvas board and then embroidering a tutu using the shapes made while painting to reflect the idea of dance.
