Year 3/4 News

Arts Centre Excursion

On Wednesday 16th of November, students in Year 3/4 visited The Arts Centre for an excursion exploring Melbourne's music world. The students participated in a guided tour of the Australian Music Vault (AMV) and an Into the Music Workshop in the Channel.

During the workshop, they used a music program called ACID Music Studio.

All the students thoroughly enjoyed playing and making different forms of music in this program. The songs they created used various instruments and were both impressive and creative. All the students had so much fun and showed off their digital technology skills - although it did take the students a while to get used to using a mouse on the desktop computer!

PBL

This term in Problem Based Learning (PBL), students have been focusing on The Arts and how Drama, Art or Music can alleviate stress in their daily lives.

The students worked in small groups across the Year 3/4 cohort to address the driving question and present a solution.

In Drama, students wrote and performed their own plays or drama activities, such as charades.

When writing a play, students explored the various features of a play script including the characters, scenes, setting, dialogue, stage directions, narrators, props and costumes.

Here are some photos of the groups performing their plays

In Art, students planned a lesson on how to draw a specific item. Students discussed how colours relate to feelings (eg. cool colours evoke feelings of calmness) and included techniques such as shading and blending. They used a procedural template to record the steps, and then recorded a short video to teach the lesson.

In Music, students worked in groups to create their own piece of music and/or prepared a lesson on how to play a specific instrument. They then used technology to record themselves teaching the lesson.

The Year 3/4 students enjoyed exploring The Arts this term and participating in activities that lower stress levels and improve their overall wellbeing.

Religion

In Religion, students have focused on the value of Hope. They explored the concept of Hope and identified their own hopes and wishes for this last term. Students explored the scripture story of ‘The Wedding in Cana’ from John’s Gospel and participated in a Bibliodrama, where some students volunteered to be specific characters, e.g. Jesus, Mary, Bride, Groom and Servant.

Through the Bibliodrama, students could get to know major characters, by putting themselves into the characters' shoes. Questions were posed and they had to answer them based on the characters. For example, Mary was asked why she said ‘They have no wine' to Jesus. The bride and groom were asked, ‘How did you feel when you realised you were out of wine?’.
