From Our School Leaders

Wellbeing In 2023

Last Friday we both attended the termly Outer Eastern Principal Forum at Karralyka in Croydon. These events are important for school leaders to attend as DET personnel outline current information, share system data and discuss Education State topics in focus. This term’s topic was Wellbeing; it will remain a focus for 2023 and beyond, as it now stands side-by-side with learning in the new Education State Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) model.

In 2023, schools will be receiving funding for Wellbeing which will see us have greater access to programs and resources to support students from a 'Wellbeing Menu', developed by DET. Scoresby PS will continue to engage our Chaplain, Lyndal, and our Mental Health Worker, Shivonne, while adding programs and resources to continue to support our students. We welcome this focus and funding from DET.

World Teachers' Day

World Teachers' Day was on Friday 28th October and we would like to acknowledge the tremendous work undertaken by all teachers, but especially those who work at Scoresby Primary School.

Teaching is a rewarding, exciting, surprising and wondrous career, and often one that people feel 'called' to. We love hearing about the ways in which the wonderful people here at Scoresby came to teaching, and although each person's journey is different, one thing is common amongst everyone - a desire to help young people reach their full potential and lead a life in which they are happy and thriving.

If the last few years have shown anything, it is how important teachers are in the lives of children and communities, for much more than delivering curriculum content. The reassurance, consistency, guidance and knowledge that is passed from teachers to students is life-changing, and we know that we are grateful to all the teachers we have had, and count ourselves lucky to be one now!

A big thank you to all the teachers in our lives, both here at Scoresby PS and beyond.

Camp Oasis

The Year 3/4 students had a fabulous time away at Oasis Camp last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They managed to complete all of their activities in the fine weather on Monday and Tuesday. It was great to see so many children trying new things, eating new foods and also working and collaborating with new friends.

The staff who attended camp are also to be congratulated for their organisation and flexibility. Tuesday night’s rain caused minor flooding at camp, which resulted in some staff and students having to relocate for the second night.  The move and clean-up was conducted calmly and quietly, so as not to upset or disturb anyone. Plans were rearranged for Wednesday morning due to the rain, and they just got on with the new arrangements. They are a resilient lot!

We’d like to thank the students and staff - Oasis Camp 2022 was a terrific success!

150th Celebrations - Birthday Party At The Zoo

Our week of celebration is fast approaching - 3 weeks time and we are beginning with our  birthday party at Melbourne Zoo. We are really hoping everyone will come along and join in the fun - that’s why we have subsidised the excursion.

We are able to take some parents on this excursion, so please see your class teacher. Numbers will be tight so it’s 1 or 2 parents per class.

Handyman Needed

We are currently looking for a handyman to assist us around the school with small building and grounds maintenance work. If you or someone you know would be interested in this type of regular work, please contact the school on 9763 7484 or email scoresby.ps@education.vic.gov.au to arrange a time to discuss our requirements. Please be advised you will require a Working With Children Check to work onsite.

Planning For 2023

We are now in planning mode for 2023. If you are aware your child/ren will not be returning to Scoresby PS next year, please let us know in writing as soon as possible. This is particularly important as we need to ensure we have the right number of students for each of our classes next year.

For 2023, we are planning one Foundation class, and there are vacancies across the school year levels for next year. We welcome enquires from any interested families.

Working Bee - Saturday 12 November 10am - 12pm

With our 150 Celebration Day fast approaching, we will be holding a Working Bee to help spruce up our grounds.  The Working Bee will be on Saturday 12th November between 10.00am and 12.00pm.  We would appreciate as many families as possible for as much, or as little, time as you are able to give. We have lots of weeding  and clearing to do, so all are welcome.

Colour Run  - New Date

We have a new date for our Colour Run - Friday 25th November at 2.00pm.

The fundraising portal is still open and currently only 26 students have raised sponsorship money.  Those 26 have done an amazing job of raising $2500 of our hoped $7000 for new library furniture. Just imagine what we could raise if more people got involved! Please take this extra time to gain sponsorship (and prizes) and help us reach our fundraising target.
